In his Digital Dilemma series, Novak utilizes popular culture with the depiction of celebrities from the hyper-inflated world of stardom. Icons such as Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher inhabit his creations. Their iconography is often underpinned by the use of repetitive images of fellow superstars, such as Marilyn Monroe and Lynda Carter. Their stardom thus immortalized and shared in the same frame.
However, in this work, Novak has extended his relationship with Van Gogh (he counts 5 versions of ‘Sunflowers’ seen in the flesh over the years) by integrating these masterpieces into it's background. The intention is to add depth and reference the iconography that each generation builds on top of the previous.
